About the Program

The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development Consolidated Adult Basic Skills and Integrated English Literacy and Civics Education Program's goal is to provide support in the development, implementation, and improvement of adult education and literacy. The program is made possible through the Federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA) of 1998 and the Adult Education and Family Literacy Act. The purpose of the WIA is to create a partnership between Federal and State governments and localities to provide, on a voluntary basis, adult education and literacy services.

This site provides access to pre-selected electronic resources on the teaching and study of adult basic education and literacy. Its purpose is to compile, in one place, an easily accessible source of instructional support for student academic success in adult basic education and literacy programs.

The resources of this site will be developed over time by the Consortium members. This initiative was launched in May 2009 with the Adult Literacy Professional Development Conference. One focus of this conference was that of information literacy and utilization of web-based resources by Consortium members. Click here to access our kick-off presentation.
