The Instructional and Professional Improvement Committee (IPIC) of Mercer County Community College is proud to present: Engaging Learners in the 21st Century (EL21c) - a conference dedicated to teaching and learning on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at the Conference Center at Mercer. Choose from a variety of sessions organized along three tracks: Engaged Learning; Online Learning; and Problem-based Learning.

Keynote Address: Engaging Students for Academic Achievement
Angela Provitera McGlynn, Professor Emeritus Mercer County Community College

Professor Provitera McGlynn has over 35 years of experience as a community college instructor. She is the recipient of distinguished teaching awards from institutions such as the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development and Mercer County Community College.

She has presented her research and strategies for engaging nontraditional learners at national and international venues. She has authored several books including: Envisioning Equity: Educating and Graduating Low-income, First-generation, and Minority College Students (2011), Teaching Today's College Students: Widening the Circle of Success (2007); and Successful Beginnings for College Teaching: Engaging Your Students from the First Day (2001). She is a regular contributor to The Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education with over 140 published articles and more in press. Her current research is focused on teaching millennial students, fostering critical-thinking, and supporting retention.


Sessions

Seventeen breakout sessions featuring presenters from 11 area colleges, discussing critical topics on three targeted tracks:

  • Engaged Learning
  • Online Learning
  • Problem-Based Learning


Registration

Registration Fee: $55, includes sessions, breakfast, and lunch
Registration Deadline: Monday, July 22, 2013 or until all seats are filled.
Cancellation Policy: Confirmed registrations canceled prior to August 7, 2013 will carry a $15 administrative fee. No refunds for cancellations requested afte this date or no-shows.
