What did you do before coming to Mercer?
I was a sports producer at a local television station. I was asked to teach an editing course which led to me to teaching as an adjunct at Temple and Rider. I enjoyed teaching so much I worked as the television station manager at another college in Pittsburgh before deciding that I would prefer to teach.
How did you come to MCCC?
While I was a station manager in Pittsburgh I was looking for a position that also allowed me to teach. I grew up in Hamilton , so coming to MCCC was like "coming home".
What projects and initiatives have you started here?
When I came to MCCC, there was no student programming on our cable TV station. It was important for students to get experience with both live and taped programming. Because we are so close to New York and Philadelphia , having experience with cable programming looks great on the students' resumes. There is the potential for 88,000 households to see our students' work. Since 2005, our students have won three professional awards - 2 2006 Telly awards and a 2005 National Communicator Award. These are awards for professionals, not just students so I think it shows that our students are getting the experience that they need for their future portfolios and careers.
